PIA (Primary Insurance Amount)

Your base Social Security benefit before adjustments.

The PIA is what Social Security pays at full retirement age (or as an SSDI benefit). It applies three percentages — 90%, 32%, and 15% — to slices of your AIME split at that year's bend points. SSDI benefits generally equal the full PIA.
