VA Disability Calculator

Combine multiple VA disability ratings the way the VA actually does it: largest first against remaining capacity, with the bilateral factor for paired left/right limb conditions and final rounding to the nearest 10. Watch every step of the math, then see the 2026 monthly amount for your dependent situation.

🎓 Understand this tool

What it is

A calculator that combines multiple VA disability percentages exactly the way VA does — against remaining capacity, not by addition — with an animated view of each step, the bilateral factor for paired limbs, and the final rounding that produces your payable rating.

How it works

Ratings are ordered largest first and each takes its percentage of the capacity that remains (38 CFR 4.25). Paired left/right arm or leg ratings are combined first and get 10% of their combined value added (38 CFR 4.26). The exact result then rounds to the nearest 10, and the payable amount is read from the verified rate pack.

Getting the most from it

  1. Enter each service-connected rating percentage from your decision letter.
  2. Tag left/right arm or leg conditions so the bilateral factor applies where the law applies it.
  3. Watch the capacity bar to see why the percentages shrink as they stack.
  4. Add your dependents to see the monthly amount for the rounded rating.

Reading your result

Two numbers matter: the exact combined value (which explains the math) and the rounded rating (which sets your pay row). A 74.5 and a 75.4 both live near the 70/80 boundary — the steps list shows exactly which side you land on and why.

What it can't tell you

This tool combines percentages you already have; it cannot rate conditions, weigh medical evidence, or predict what VA will service-connect. Only a VA rating decision determines your actual combined rating.

Frequently asked questions

Ratings combine against remaining capacity, not by addition. A 50% rating leaves 50% efficiency; a second 50% rating takes half of what remains, giving 75% — which rounds to 80% under 38 CFR 4.25.
